The Basics of an Orchestra

The Steinway of Riverside County has developed a audio/visual presentation entitled "The Basics of an Orchestra," geared to 4th and 5th grade level.

This 40 minute presentation covers the four instrument
families and the major instruments within each family. The students watch videos of 22 instruments being played individually and as an orchestra.

The students also learn about the function of the conductor and the standard seating arrangement for
the instruments on a concert stage. This program is
taught by docents with musical experience.
